Sign PDF - Draw, Type or Upload a Signature

Draw, type or upload a signature, place it on the page, then export a PDF.

Add a PDF

This puts an image of your signature onto the page: an electronic signature. It is not a certificate-based digital signature. There is no certificate, no identity check, nothing tying the mark to you, and no way for a reader to tell whether the file was changed after signing. Anyone who opens the PDF can copy the image out and reuse it.

Sign

Add a PDF to see its pages. Draw a signature, type a name or upload a PNG, click the page to place it, then export — all in this tab, nothing is uploaded.

About Sign PDF

This tool adds a picture of a signature to a PDF page, on your own device. Draw on the signing pad with a mouse, a trackpad or a finger, type a name to render it in a signature face, or upload a PNG or JPG of a signature you scanned earlier. Click the page where it should sit, drag it into place, and use the corner handle to scale it - the aspect ratio is kept, so the signature never stretches. An optional date line can be placed the same way. One thing to be clear about: what comes out is an electronic signature, an image drawn onto the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, so there is no certificate, no identity check and no way for a reader to tell whether the file was changed after signing, and anyone who opens the PDF can copy the image out and reuse it.

How to use Sign PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Drop the PDF into the upload area, click to browse, or paste it with Ctrl+V. The first page appears on the canvas.

  2. 2

    Make a signature

Draw on the signing pad with a mouse, a trackpad or a finger, or type a name, or upload a PNG or JPG of a signature. Clear the pad and draw again as often as you like.

  3. 3

    Place it on the page

Move to the page you want with the previous and next controls, then click where the signature should sit. Add the date line the same way if you need it.

  4. 4

    Position and scale

Drag the signature to move it, or focus it and nudge it with the arrow keys. The corner handle and the plus and minus keys scale it, keeping its aspect ratio.

  5. 5

    Export the PDF

Click Export PDF. Progress is shown page by page and can be cancelled, then rename the file and download it.

Use cases

  • Signing a one-page agreement that arrived by email
  • Adding a signature and a date to a scanned form
  • Countersigning a document someone else already signed
  • Signing a delivery or handover note on a phone

Privacy

The signature, the preview and the export all happen in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, nothing is logged, and closing the tab discards both the file and the signature. Note what the output is: an image of a signature on the page, with no certificate and no identity check, and anyone who opens the file can copy that image out of it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, this Sign PDF tool is 100% free with no hidden charges, no signup required, and no usage limits.
An electronic signature: an image of a signature drawn onto the page, the same as signing a printed page and scanning it back. There is no certificate involved, no identity check, nothing binding the mark to a particular person, and no way for a reader to tell whether the file was changed after signing.
A certificate-based digital signature uses a cryptographic key issued with a certificate. It ties the signature to an identity the reader's PDF viewer can check, and it lets the viewer report whether the document changed after it was signed. This tool does none of that - it draws a picture onto the page. If you need the certificate-based kind, you need a signing certificate and software that supports it.
That is not something we can answer for you. The tool produces an image of a signature on a page. Whether that is enough depends on the country you are in, the type of document, and sometimes on what the other party will accept - the rules differ widely and change over time. Check the requirements that apply to your own jurisdiction and document, or ask a qualified professional, before you rely on it.
Yes. The signature is an image inside the file, so anyone who can open the PDF can extract it and reuse it elsewhere. Treat a signed file the way you would treat a signed piece of paper you posted, and only send it to people you mean to send it to.
PNG and JPG. A PNG with a transparent background gives the best result, because the page shows through around the strokes. A JPG always has a solid background, so a white-background JPG will cover the part of the page it sits on. The tool does not try to remove backgrounds.
No. The signature, the preview and the export all happen directly in your browser using JavaScript. The PDF and the signature never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.
Yes to both. The signing pad takes finger strokes and the page fits the screen, with the options in a bottom sheet. Positions are stored in the page's own coordinate space, so a signature lands where you put it on pages rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees.
