Split PDF - Extract Pages or Split into Several Files

Extract a page range into one PDF, or cut a document into several files.

Add a PDF

Split

Add a PDF to see every page as a thumbnail. Extracting and splitting both run in this tab — nothing is uploaded.

About Split PDF

This Split PDF tool works two ways. Extract mode takes a page range like 1-3, 5, 8- and writes exactly those pages, in order, into one new PDF. Split mode cuts the document into several files instead, either from a list of ranges you type or in fixed chunks of N pages, and packs the parts into a zip. Either way the page grid shows you what you are about to get before you commit, the range box and the grid stay in step with each other, and every page is written with pdf-lib on your own device, so the file never leaves the tab.

Features

100% Private

All processing happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server.

Instant

Pages are copied straight across, so even a several hundred page PDF splits in a moment.

Type Or Click

Write a range like 1-3, 5, 8- or click the thumbnails. The two always agree.

100% Free

No signup, no watermarks, no limits. Completely free to use forever.

How to use Split PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Drop the PDF into the upload area, click to browse, or paste it with Ctrl+V. Every page appears as a thumbnail.

  2. 2

    Choose extract or split

Extract writes the pages you pick into one PDF. Split writes several PDFs, by range or every N pages, and gives you a zip.

  3. 3

    Pick the pages

Type a range like 1-3, 5, 8- or click the thumbnails. The range box and the page grid stay in step with each other.

  4. 4

    Run it

Click Split PDF. Progress is shown page by page and can be cancelled at any point.

  5. 5

    Download the result

Rename the output if you like, then save the new PDF or the zip of parts to your device.

Use cases

  • Pulling one signed page out of a long contract before emailing it
  • Splitting a batch scan into one file per invoice or per document
  • Sending a single chapter or section instead of the whole book
  • Cutting a large PDF into smaller parts that fit an upload limit

Privacy

Splitting runs in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, nothing is logged, and closing the tab discards it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, this Split PDF tool is 100% free with no hidden charges, no signup required, no watermarks, and no usage limits.
Absolutely. The document is split directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your file is never uploaded to any server, so nothing leaves your device.
Use page numbers and dashes separated by commas, for example 1-3, 5, 8-. A dash with nothing after it means from that page to the end. The range is checked as you type and tells you plainly if a page is out of range or a range runs backwards.
Yes. Click a page thumbnail to select it, Shift-click for a run of pages, or Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on a Mac) to add single pages. The range box updates to match, and typing a range highlights the matching thumbnails.
Extract writes one new PDF containing the pages you chose. Split writes several PDFs, one per range or one per chunk of N pages, and gives you a zip because there is more than one file to download.
A browser can only save one file per download, so several output PDFs are packed into a single zip. Unzip it and you get the parts named after your original file, numbered in order.
No. Pages are copied across whole, keeping their text, images, links and original rotation. Only the page count of each output file differs from the original.
No. A password protected PDF has to be unlocked first. The tool says so plainly when you drop one in, rather than failing silently.
