PDF to Word - Convert a PDF Into an Editable DOCX

Turn the text of a PDF into an editable .docx document, right in your browser.

Add a PDF

Convert

Add a PDF to turn its text into a .docx you can edit. Conversion happens in this tab — nothing is uploaded. A scanned PDF holds no text to read, and the tool will say so.

About PDF to Word

This PDF to Word tool reads the position of every piece of text on the pages you pick and uses those coordinates to rebuild the document: text sitting at roughly the same height becomes one line, lines separated by a noticeably larger vertical gap than the page's usual line spacing become separate paragraphs, and a line whose font size clearly exceeds the body size becomes a heading. Bold and italic are carried over when the embedded font name says so. The result is written as a genuine .docx package - document, styles and relationships - that Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all open directly. What you get back is text and basic structure, not layout: images, tables, columns, exact fonts, spacing and positioning are not reproduced, so a visually complex PDF comes out as plain flowing text you can then format yourself. A scanned PDF holds no text at all, only pixels, and the tool says so plainly rather than handing you an empty document. Everything runs on your own device, so the file never leaves the tab.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, this PDF to Word tool is 100% free with no hidden charges, no signup required, no watermarks, and no usage limits.
Absolutely. The PDF is read directly in your browser using JavaScript, and the .docx is built there too. Your file is never uploaded to any server, so nothing leaves your device.
A scan is a picture of a page, so there is no text inside the file to read, only pixels. The tool detects a page with no text and tells you plainly instead of giving you an empty document. If every selected page is a scan, no file is produced at all. Reading a scan needs OCR, which is not included in this tool.
Because this tool recovers text and basic structure, not layout. Paragraphs, headings, bold, italic and page breaks are rebuilt from the text and its position, but images, tables, columns, exact fonts, margins, spacing and positioning are not reproduced. A PDF with a complex visual design comes out as plain flowing text in reading order, which you can then format yourself.
Lines that sit at roughly the same height are grouped into one line of text. A vertical gap noticeably larger than the page's own median line spacing starts a new paragraph. A line whose font size clearly exceeds the median body size becomes Heading 1, and a smaller excess becomes Heading 2. It is a heuristic, so you can switch heading detection off if it guesses wrong on your document.
Yes. Type a range like 1-3, 5, 8- in the pages box to choose which pages are read. Only the pages you select end up in the Word file.
Yes. The file is a standard Office Open XML package, so Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Pages all open it directly. You can also save it to another format from there.
No. A password protected PDF has to be unlocked first. The tool says so plainly when you drop one in, rather than failing silently.
